Snoozing with Pa on the couch!

First Trip in the Pram

Tim and I took our princess for her first walk (it was only around the block as that's all i can do at the moment) in the pram. Needless to say she slept through it!

WE'RE HOME with our Dot in the Cot

Hi to all

Firstly thankyou to everyone for all the love and support and congratulations over the last week!! We all appreciate it very much! As we all know things were less than perfect with the birth, labour and feeding/weight issues however we have been given the cutest baby EVER!!! Not that I am the biased mum . . . So finally Sunday we left hospital with me in tears, tim eager but anxious and baby Kate TOTALLY oblivious!! I resisted the overprotective temptation to ride in the back with her the whole way home to ensure she was breathing and sat up front with tim and finally for the first time felt mildly relaxed! First stop was the local shopping centre to stock up on bottles, formula and sterilising equipment for our supplementing! For those of you that don't know i am having a supply issue and the demand is too great and far too important to ignore so i am topping her up with some formula to keep her happy. This has its up sides - bubs sleeps quite well as formula tends to do that and it also has its down sides - I feel a terrible amount of 'mother guilt' as i am sure all you mums out there can understand! Anyway we finally got home and Kate had slept through everything we took her to her room and popped her in her cot and as you will see by the photo she is a mere 'dot in the cot'. It is strange to be home with her but very nice also. Tim and I are fully aware of the hermit status we are going to undertake over the next 6 weeks and it becomes more and more apparent every minute. So what else to say ...... Nothing because what you really what is just more photos.......

So we will oblige

Thanks again to all and enjoy our precious daughter

Lots of love

Kate Elizabeth Hynes has finally arrived!!!

Hi All,

Tim here to do a blog update.

Phase One of mission objective

Well I better start from the beginning when the labour really started on Monday morning. We had a doctors appointment on Monday scheduled for 10:00am. When we arrived at the hospital for the appointment Caz was already having strong contractions that had begun in pre-labour since last Thursday. (Suffice to say she was already sleepless leading into the main event!) So...before she got to the appointment the midwives examined her in the Pregnancy Assessment Centre (maternity ED really). It revealed that she was 4cm dilated, much to Caz's relief. Admission followed into a birth suite which included a double bed, big shower and lots of room to move and groan. We stayed in this room for about 5-6 hours with Caz labouring until 7cm. during this time she had the artificial rupture of membranes and injections of water under the skin at the base of the back to confuse pain receptors. This worked a treat for relieving back pain for about an hour and a half. At this stage it was revealed that bub was facing occipito posterior (OP) or in Tim terms 'facing the fanny'. (Please note my term reference set is available at www.bogan.com.au)

Phase Two

At this point the midwife advised that the labour wasn't progressing as well as expected at this point so we decided to take their advice and opt for an epidural and syntocinin drip to speed up and strengthen the contractions and dilation. This meant we had to move from the nice birth suite to a delivery suite. (Still a big room but more clinically orientated.) as soon as the anaesthetist placed the epidural Caz came back to planet earth and couldn't thank him enough for initiating such a wonderful drug. with back pain exterminated and planet earth within sight again contractions ramped up (though caz couldn't really feel it) until about 9:00pm. At this point the team reviewed her and found she was fully dilated. YAY!!! This meant launch sequence could be initiated for pushing and final take off. From 9:00pm until around 10:30pm Caz pushed at every contraction she could feel coming on. This was a mammoth effort on her part and the head began descending.

Phase Three

another examination was done just after 11:00pm with the final news that Caz was going to need to have an emergency Caesar as the head would not descend any further in its current 'face to fanny' position. At this point Caz was well and truly exhausted and lacking any trace of energy. So at about 11:40pm we were wheeled into surgery. Due to Caz's effort in pushing, Kate's head had well and truly descended to the point that the ob's surgeon was pulling her back with all his strength to the point of shaking. (I was slightly nervous at this stage and wondered if he was going to pull one of the two heads off!) However much to our delight Kate was officially born at 11:52pm on Monday night (23/07/07).

She is a bundle of cuteness and we can't stop kissing and cuddling her. She is healthy and well. Caz is now doing well. Yesterday (Tues) she was still feeling and looking shattered as she had not got sleep. I have placed a ban on visitors until thursday as she needs to recover. Stats are below:

Weight: 3,525gms (approx 8lbs for those with grey hair)
Length: not sure yet
DOB: 23/07/07
Time: 11:52pm
Delivery: Emergency Caesarean Section

Still Here

It's Saturday 14th July and I am two days out from the supposed due date!! Surprisingly I have had many enquiries as to whether its happened yet!! I asure you all that when it does we will let you know! However now we all must play this waiting game! Tim's work are doing a sweep on the date, sex, time and weight, the first date is not till tues or wed so still a few days to go! Above are a couple of photos taken recently of the bump and me for you all to see.
The nursery is finalised, curtains are up and everything has its place . . .I will pop some photos up of the room too!
Jenny (mum) is here for the waiting game and she and i are cross stitching madly to make bubs a quilt - its a family tradition and luckily my aunts are on board too! Other than waiting there is not too much going on. Tim and i are taking it pretty easy as i don't particularly feel up to very much! Last night we had indian in the hope that a good vindaloo my assist with kicking things off - I am still here! The midwife told me hot curry, hot bath and hot sex is one of the ways to make it happen and i told her that surely a man made that up....The hot bath is not going to happen as our little bath is so low and so tiny and it is so cold and my belly is soooo big that it just won't do it for me, plus i'm terrified of getting stuck down there. Hot sex - huh- thats what got us into this in the first place and let me tell you the large appendage i am carrying is not such a turn on these days! But at least we tried the hot curry :)
The weekend is kicking off as a shocker - its cold dark and rainy - not anything appealing for a new bub :( We are thinking of some putt putt tomorrow if the rain clears up, Jenny hasn't played in about 15 years so we thought we take her for a swing and i am hoping that gravity might take hold!!!!
Any who speak soon
lots of love

38 weeks and still running. . . .

Hi all

Not long since the last post but i know everyone is anticipating news each day. . . especially us! Tim and I struggling with the concept that this little bundle is already totally in control and we've had to relinquish any decisional right as to the arrival day date and time. . . It is an odd feeling, which i am sure we will get used to over the course of its life!

Since Friday we have done heaps . . The weekend was fab, Friday night was dinner and birth class with Dan & Kylie - we were sad to see them finish actually. It was nice to be in a room of pregnant couples and feel free to focus on that aspect of your life for 2.5hours without needing to worry if you were boring people out of their brain with all the baby banter. Saturday morning i walked the salamanca markets with the lovely Adelle (a good friend and OT at the royal)and managed to not buy anything except a jam donut and a card . . I was very close to purchasing something but restrained!!
Saturday afternoon found us at Dan & Kylie's for Dan's 30th birthday party. . . This was no ordinary party, in fact it was similar to the "amazing race" just without the cash and prizes! Now despite the lesser loot at the end the competition was EXTREMELY fierce in fact maybe even more so, friendships were put aside for the glory of being the WINNING TEAM!!! The whole thing started with a find-a-word which had to be completed to receive our first destination, needless to say our team struggled a little with the answer as we had the wrong letters, however we managed to access some assistance and we were on our way. By this time we were coming last and the symbol decription that came next did not help matters. Needless to say that at the end we were second to finish and second place overall! The winners were decided based on points and we had managed to fullfill many challenges - acquiring road kill, dirty nappies, cappucino moustaches, old underwear, photo of a team member trying on pyjamas (this was me) and a load of other interesting, disgusting and hilarious challenges! ! We were so pleased to have come a place in the rally as there were about 35 people competing!! Everyone had so much fun and even I with my big preggo belly was running around trying to locate clues and win the prize!!!! Tim & I were exhausted that evening however my nesting instinct was in full swing and for some reason we just had to come home and rearrange the bedroom or else i was not going to be able to sleep - poor tim obliged with much vocal begrudging, the positive thought was we managed to locate all our papers for tax purposes so tim managed to feel better about it!
On Sunday we had a little lay in and then tim went off to play soccer and i went down to Blackmans Bay (about 20 mins away) and started helping our dear friends Ash & Brendan prepare for the painting of their gorgeous new house! Goodness it brought back memories (and nightmares) of our reno's. They are doing vey well thought and hopefully we'll be able to help them a little more before this bub makes a guest appearance. Ash is quite concerned that i am going to go into labour and turn up to hospital with no more gaps or spac filler in my hair - nice touch!
Lots of catching up with people is all i have planned for this week. Brad Christal and Jackson are moving this weekend (lucky i'm preggo or i'd be helping, instead i just get to spend the day with the beautiful Jackson Angus Harris), Ash & Brendan are painting so we are going to try and help them sunday and our lovely friend Kirstie is having a 40th so we will be popping in there too. . . . Jam packed weekend!! However this could all change in a matter of minutes if small fry decides its time . . . We'll keep you all posted!!
Bye for now
:) Caz xoxo
